The Pennsylvania Dance Education Organization endorses the new revised Arts and Humanities standards under review by the Pennsylvania State Board of Education.
Building on the National Arts Standards, these revisions were led by David Deitz, arts consultant with PADOE, in collaboration with 60 of educators from across the commonwealth over the past year. Educators from PK-12 through post-secondary in Dance, Music, Theatre, Visual and Media Arts crafted updated standards to reflect congruence with the National Core Arts Standards.
We find these standards to be applicable to all dance contexts across Pennsylvania and to provide meaningful guidelines for access to dance for children across the commonwealth.
Details on how to register to provide testimony to the committee are included in the attached Chapter 4 Hearing Notice and can be viewed online on the Board’s website. The proposed Arts Standards are also attached or can be viewed online. In addition to accepting testimony at its public hearings, the Committee also invites comments from stakeholders in writing. Additional details on how to submit written comments are included at the end of the hearing notice. |
